Captain’s Log: Stardate 201707.19. With the purchase of an inexpensive acrylic stand from a vendor on eBay, the repaired starship Enterprise has been recommissioned and is on display in my office, as per the photo below. I was prepared to buy a whole new model just to get a replacement display stand, which would have been expensive, but luckily that was not necessary. By the way, note the title of the book next to the Enterprise. It seemed appropriate. Live long and prosper.
Captain’s Log: Stardate 201707.3. I am saddened to report that one of my favourite models of the starship Enterprise was damaged, and part of its display stand lost, by the cleaning staff when they came to my office today. I bought some superglue to repair the model, and tried to think of what to do about the missing stand. I tried to hang the model from the ceiling, but it didn’t look right, so I went on eBay and found a vendor who sells custom-made acrylic display stands for this model. They’re not cheap, but I can get one after payday. Rather than blame the cleaning staff, which I know would get me nowhere, I tried to come up with a compromise and we’ll see if it works. In the meantime, I have another model of the Enterprise at home, and although it is not as detailed as the one that was in my office, it will substitute until I get a new stand. After reading so much about stoicism in my Ethics of Star Trek class, I try to practice it as much as possible.
